The kids activities are in full swing as are Mommy's! Daddy's day is, of course, booked and his evenings and weekends fly by with ours!
School, work, volunteering, appointments, coffee mornings, birthday parties, playdates, bar-b-ques, church, soccer, horse-riding, and...the list goes on! What I am happy to report is all is well, the kids are enjoying school and their teachers, and my social calendar stays full! As for Spencer, his new position is giving him multiple challenges and he thinks he is slowly 'winning' people over to his way of thinking ;) This particular job is even bigger than he first suspected, so he certainly has his work cut out for him!
A few new things are now part of the 'regular' schedule around here. I was asked by Brendan's teacher if I could come in a couple times a week during math time to help out a bit. She has a situation where there are several kids that are way ahead and a couple that are way behind, so it was difficult for her to give everyone the help they needed. So, how could I say "no"? I am now spending an hour on Monday and Thursday afternoons with the 5th graders mainly just checking work as they go and answering and explaining if/when I can or helping a kiddo one-on-one sometimes so she can focus on the all the other stuff.
Beginning this Wednesday, I will also be starting horse riding lessons! Yes, my friend, Sabrina rounded up enough ladies to make a class and the riding club agreed to do lessons for us! I am so excited! I bet I will have a silly grin like Kyla's starting on Wednesday!
We also have lots to look forward to in the next couple weeks - both kids have their 'Share in Our Learning' time later this week, I am going on a 'History of Stavanger' tour next week, and...MY MOMMY is coming to visit next week too! You can bet we have persuaded her to bring us a few (well, okay, a suitcase full) of items with her! And she just thought she would 'pack light'...hahaha!
One funny thing from the last couple weeks...Stavanger hosted it's first ever CAR FREE DAY in town...yes, you read correctly, car-free. So luckily, word got out in the expat community and we knew a few days ahead of time. They shut down all the roads leading into the city center and surrounding areas to all vehicles - walkers and cycles only... We just had to laugh. It, of course, was terrible weather and rained most all day that day. I have heard mixed reviews on the event, so I guess we will see if they have it again next year!
Speaking of the weather...it has been seriously lousy the last couple weeks - only little bits of sun and tons of rain. Reports are that this has been the rainiest summer in a very long time and even the locals are a bit tired of it! The day light hours are gradually shrinking.
Otherwise, life is good - friends, fun, lots of laughs, a little stress thrown in to keep us on our toes, and looking forward to tackling the activities that fill our calendar!
I will leave you with a couple
