Hitler's Teeth and WWII Bunkers

On August 6th, the weather turned out beautiful so we took advantage of a free day and took a drive down 44 toward Egersund.  We had heard of tunnels, bunkers, and other 'leftovers' from the Germans during World War II.  We were looking for a couple things in particular and found them!

Our first stop was near Brusand.  We parked near a campground and walked down a trail.  We found the remains of what is known as Hitler's Teeth.  These are actually a series of cement blocks that form a fairly long path that were placed to prevent tanks from making landfall and coming into the country from the beaches.

After our stop here, we headed down Rv 44 a bit further to an area known for its WWII Nazi bunkers, tunnels, and artillery turrets and lookouts near Ogna.  We went for a short hike and found the things we had heard about.  We could also see why the area was chosen - the view out to the sea and to the surrounding areas was amazing.  We were amazed at the things that had been built.

It was really interesting to listen to what the kids had to say about what they thought the different tunnels, shelters, lookouts, turrets, etc. were for.  Here are a couple pictures of the surrounding area - really beautiful scenery without a doubt!

It was a fun outing for us to visit a new place with lots of history - all within an hour or so drive!  Norway is full of treasures and I am always on the lookout for new places to visit!
